2. Pg. 793-794 “Occupation”-Suji Kwok Kim: This poem sounds like a horror movie that is actually reality. It shocks me that things like this happen in the world. I find myself comfortable with an easier way of life than some of the countries in poverty all around the world, I tend not to acknowledge these kinds of problems that occur. It is very sad.

3. Pg. 796-797 “Asked for a Happy Memory of Her Father, She Recalls Wrigley Field”- Beth Ann Fennelly: This poem struck me as very sweet and precious. It shows the bond between a daughter and her father, and reminds me of the memories I have with my Dad. I think back to all the soccer and footballs we attended, and all the laughs we shared.

The poem talks about a traveler who is hiking in the woods and comes to a fork in the road; deciding which path he/she should take they weigh their options of each trail. Upon coming to a conclusion the traveler takes the road less traveled by. This symbolizes that everywhere in life you are going to have to make decisions and it is not until you experience them that you will know if those decisions were worthwhile or meaningful.

Circumstances of the poem: A traveler comes to a fork in the road and weighs out his options of which path he wants to walk down. This symbolizes everyday choices or decisions we make in our own lives.

Figurative language: personification ”Because it was grassy and wanted wear.” People know a road can’t have human characteristics and doesn’t think, therefore, meaning it can’t want. Its significance is it is weighing out the travelers options of which road to take. Eventually, leading to his final decision of which path to travel. This symbolizes major choices we have to make in our lives.

I Dream Before I Take the Stand: I got really annoyed with the back and forth questioning between the lawyer and the poor girl. It really made me angry the way he was asking her the questions. I felt like he was manipulation what actually happened that day in the park.

-My critique: My first reaction to the review was I found it rather fascinating. It was positive, interesting, and I liked how the play seemed to engage the audience, making them feel present and involved. The review, however, left out a lot of detail when critiquing the play. It didn’t discuss character’s costumes, scenic design, sound design, did the actors play their parts well, did the production match the script, were there any confusing parts, and the writers personal opinion of the performance. Although the critique seemed well written, I felt it needed much more detail.

Sometimes, It Takes a Woman to Solve a Murder : By Ken Jaworoski

-My Critique: My first reaction to this review was I did not enjoy reading it as much as I did the other review. It was dull and uninteresting. Although of the two it is the better one. This review contained all the pieces that make up a critique. From beginning to end it had all the details a good review should have. It was positive, followed a good outline, and had a decent conclusion.

-Antigone is standing up for what she believes is right and is doing the noble thing. In a sense it is making Creon helpless and powerless to her. Out of anger, pride, and self desires he orders her to be executed.

2. Haemon- ”Do not believe that you alone can be right. The man who thinks that, the man who maintains that only he has the power. To reason correctly, the gift to speak, the soul. A man like that, when you know him turns out empty. It is not reason never to yield to reason.”

-Haemon tries to rationally talk to his father and give him good advice. Instead, angry, Creon verbally attacks him and refuses his pleas to save Antigone. He is so absorbed in his own pride.

3. Chorus- “Wisdom is by far the greatest part of joy, and reverence toward the gods must be safeguarded. The mighty words of the proud are paid in full with mighty blows of fate, and at long last those blows will teach us wisdom.”

-This sums up the entire play and the theme of the play. Those who are conceded and full of pride will get what is coming to them in the end. Through hardships we gain knowledge and wisdom.

My critique:

I think the review did a good job of covering the plot of the story without giving too much detail. It hooked me and intrigued me to want to read the novel all over again. The review does a good job explaining the relationship between Carolina and Mr. Mann without giving the story away. It was well put together.

This review could have given more background information and more detail to what the story was about. It felt like a biography of who Nine was and her life. I didn’t give any information about the relationship between Carolina and Mr. Mann or the plot of the story.
